New Balance Race Report: Mid-Wach League Championships

Ghiloni Park in Marlborough played host the 2025 Midland Wachusett League Championships.

Boys Division A

Wachusett Regional took the Division A race with a score of 39 over Algonquin Regional with 52. The mountaineers had a strong presence up front with Junior Brady Bartley getting the win in 15:43, and teammate Benjamin Duffy also cracking 16 minutes, running 15:59 for third overall. Wachusett had their top five all finish in the top 13, with Elias Deweese, Ryan Godfroy, and Heath Hebb all running under 17 minutes.

Algonquin kept pace with Wachusett for a while, with their top four all finishing in the top ten. Junior Stephen Green was runner up in 15:43. Trent Bedard was fourth overall in 16:10, and teammates Finn McManus and Clark Bezzant were eighth and ninth in 16:22 and 16:36.

Nathaniel Grant of Shepherd Hill Regional was fifth overall in a season best of 16:13. Grant will look to qualify for the Meet of Champions again out of Division 2B.

Girls Division A

It was a similar story in the girl’s race, as Wachusett Regional topped Algonquin, 38-52. Wachusett freshmen Annika Kindorf was runner up for the Mountaineers in 18:46. Wachusett was without star runner Naomi Witt. In her absence it was the freshmen, Kindorf that stepped up with a massive PR. The Mountaineers also placed another three runners in the top ten. Amelia Gracey, Kailyn Brenn, and Madilyn Mulroy, finished seventh, eighth, and ninth, just over ten seconds apart. Sarah Martin and Emily O’Connor were 12th and 14th.

Westborough’s Clare Hall took the Division B individual title with a time of 18:17. Hall will race against some of the state’s best at the D1A championships next weekend in Wrentham. Teammate Regan Kittredge was third overall in 19:18, helping Westborough finish in third.

Algonquin’s Kyra Brossi, Tanvi Mehta, and Sabrine Brossi finished fourth, fifth, and sixth. All three ran personal records. Josephine Gugger finished in 10th for Algonquin as well.

Boys Division B

Groton-Dunstable had an impressive win in the boys Division B race with a score of 28. They had a total of nine runners in the top 15, and had six runner’s crack 17 minutes, with seventh runner, Timothy Yafrate, running 17:00.

Andrew Kosiba got the victory in 15:54. He was third in the Division 2C race last season and will look to improve on that this year. Greyson Duane and Micah Pierantozzi finished in the top five, running 16:22 and 16:29. Last season Duane won the 2C race, leading Groton-Dunstable to the team title. They’ll look to do the same in a few weeks.

Oakmont Regional were runner up on Saturday with 58 points and were led by Jayden Brostrom and Chayse Parker. Brostrom was runner up in 16:07 and Parker was third overall in 16:12.

Girls Division B

Groton-Dunstable were double winners as they took the girls race as well with a score of 27. Meghan McEleney of Groton-Dunstable was the overall winner with an impressive time of 18:26. She was fifth last season in the 2C Race at states and will look to lead Groton-Dunstable onto the podium this season. The Crusaders had a 5-8 sweep, as Lucy Mongan, Anika Paulson, Finley Clinton, and Iris Lampe finished in order, running between 21:31 and 21:44.

Nashoba Regional were runner up and placed two runners in the top five. Deirbhile Nagle was second overall 21:03, and teammate Nadia Churchill was fourth overall in 21:15.

North Middlesex Regional’s Chloe Hobart was third overall in a PR of 21:12.

Boys Division C

The Bromfield Boys got the job done on Saturday, topping Littleton by 33 points with a score of 30. They were led by Division C champion, Ben McWaters, who broke the tape in 15:46 for a massive PR. McWaters was third in Division 3C last season, and will challenge for the win this time around. Teammate Harrison Binnick was fifth overall in 16:23. As a team, Bromfield was second last year in Division 3C, and they’ll have their work cut out for them against another strong Parker Charter team.

Mathew Pilon of Lunenberg also cracked 16 minutes, running 15:52. Pilon will look to qualify for the Meet of Champions out of the Division 3B race.

Sokari Jenkins of Gardner was third overall in 16:04, and Maxwell Thompkins of Littleton was fourth in 16:19.

Girls Division C

In the girls Division C Race, Bromfield topped Lunenberg by 18 points with a score of 40. Bromfield was strong up front putting three runners in the top five. Rosie Bradley was second overall in 18:46. Bradley has a PR of 18:41 and will be one of the top Division 3 runners to watch over the coming weeks. Abby Wool and Jackie Wilkins finished together in fourth and fifth, running 19:59 and 20:00.

Olivia Coronella was first overall in 18:34 to help Lunenberg finish runner up. This is her first XC season and she’s broken 19 minutes twice. Lunenberg competes in Division 3B where Coronella will be one of the top contenders.

Isabella Duarte of Tyngsborough was third overall and tied her PR of 19:30. She was eleventh in the Division 3B race last season and will look to improve on that this year at Fort Devens.

Boys Division D

In the Division D race, Maynard was able to clip Ayer Shirley by two points for the team title, 39-41. Konrad Schluter and David Schwind finished second and third, running 16:29 and 16:52. Andrew Lovering, Daniel Kelley, and RJ Hobbs also finished in the top 15 for Maynard.

Ayer Shirley got off to a great start with race champion Jake Leone gapping the field and running a PR of 15:52. This was Leone’s first time under 16 minutes, and he and the rest of the Ayer Shirley team will look to keep the ball rolling at the Division 3C Championships.

Narragansett finished third overall and were led by two top five finished from Adonijah Lewis and Julian Haydar, running 17:15 and 17:19.

Girls Division D

In the Girls Division D race, Ayer Shirley had arguably the most dominant performance of the day, winning with a score of 18. A runner from Ayer Shirley occupied five of the first six positions and six of the top ten.

Carolyn Mason of Ayer Shirley was the overall winner in 20:27. She was followed by teammate Ada Perwak in second place. Jane Marshall, Ella Reed, and Devon Perwak finished fourth, fifth, and sixth. Isabella Haywood was ninth overall for the Panthers.

Samra Mungai of Tahanto Regional finished in third place, running 22:15 to help her team finish third overall.
