Varsity Girls 5K
Fans from the Bay State got what they wanted on Saturday at Franklin Park. Whitinsville Christian’s Emily Flagg through down a monster time on the famous course, and the #1 Lexington girls got a dominant win.
Flagg broke the tape in a time of 17:37. That may not seem as fast considering the times we recently saw at Twilight, but Franklin Park is undoubtedly a slower course. Since this year was a new course, it’s hard to put her time in perspective. However, they were running over the same terrain, just in a different order for the most part. Her time of 17:37 currently sits at #8 all time per athletic.net. There are definitely some performances missing from there. Shalane Flanagan’s course record comes to mind. But if you look at the names she’s next to, it’s without a doubt an all-time great performance.
Lexington took home the team trophy with an impressive score of 39. #9 Bishop Feehan was runner up with 110 points for perspective. Lexington put five runners in the top 12 and seven in the top 18. All of their top seven broke 20 minutes with Emma Kosnik running 19:48. Jane Conrad led the way running an impressive 18:19 for second overall. Another great time historically. Ella Tyson nearly joined her in the 18-minute club, but stopped the clock right at 19:00. Alycia Charest, Callie Glenn, and Erin Ehmann all ran under 19:10. Thayer Dicerbo was 16th overall in 19:38. Addie Haiar was 43rd, Meghan Caldera was 45th, and Isabella Gorospe was 53rd.

What does this mean for the rest of the season? While winning Ocean State was more of a statement considering the competition, this might be their best performance of the seaon. Dyestat currently has them at #4 in their regional rankings. A spot at NXN could be up for grabs. But first they have to take care of Massachusetts.
Those weren’t the only major performances. Three other Massachusetts runners broke 19 minutes. Central Catholic’s Kyla Breslin ran 18:30 and Bishop Feehan’s Sophie Shaw ran 18:53. However, the standout performance of the day went to Swampscott’s Annabelle Averett. In her 2025 opener, she ran a PR of 18:34. After finishing eighth at the Meet of Champions last season, she has cemented herself as a contender this season.
Varsity Boys Red
The hometown heroes were the top Massachusetts team in the Varsity Red Race. #13 Catholic Memorial was third overall behind NH’s Pinkerton Academy and PA’s Lower Merion, with a score of 94. Michael Upton was fifth overall in 16:03, a PR on the course. Daniel Kaleba was second for the Knights and 14th overall in 16:38. Theo Fitzpatrick also cracked 17 for them running 16:51. Gerard Stock and Jude Kaleba rounded out the top five, running 17:09 and 17:15.

The performance of the race had to belong to freshmen Quinn Cook of Hopedale Jr/Sr. Cook finished seventh overall in 16:05, a phenomenal time for a freshmen at Franklin Park. Based off time, he is the #2 freshmen in the state at the moment.
Varsity Boys Silver
In the silver race, #15 Boston Latin Academy’s Ryan Collins got his first major win of the season. Collins broke the tape in 16:41. While not a PR, it’s a strong performance considering the course, and bodes well farther down the line. For example, running at Fort Deven’s at the Meet of Champions.
Bridgewater-Raynham Regional got the win over Boston Latin, with 79 points. Senior Brian Peters was third overall in a season record of 16:57. Mathew Parks and Jack Alves both finished in the top 15, running 17:22 and 17:26. Bridgewater-Raynham finished with an average time of 17:31 for their top five.
Andrew Carchetti of Bishop Feehan also cracked 17 minutes on Saturday, running a season record of 16:58.
