#3 Boys Brookline defeats #19 Newton North, 20-37

Brookline wrapped up their regular season yesterday against a strong Newton North team. Star duo Liam Hartman and Theodore Butty went 1-2 for the Warriors in 16:05-06. That 1-2 punch will be crucial for Brookline as they head into the post season and look to avenge their lone loss to Natick. Newton North’s Lucas Allen managed to break up their top four, running 16:15 for third, but was followed by Brookline’s Ibrahim Abdel-Dayem and Aiden Vandor.

The next five spots were separated by five seconds, as Newton North’s Max Badri and William Kenneally came in at 16:28-29, with Brookline’s Harry Flint and Soshant Shahbazi on their heels at 16:30-31. Newton North’s Alexander Daly was right behind them at 16:32.

Both teams will compete at the BSC Championships at Wrentham the following weekend and will then see each other again at the Division 1A Championships.

#5 Girls Newton North tops Brookline, 15-50

Coming off a strong performance at Twilight, Newton North continues to show why they’re one of the top programs in the state. They cruised to a 15-50 victory over a formidable Brookline team. Audrey Welstead got the win in a PR of 19:32 as Newton North took the top seven positions. Pearl Neafsey was third overall and ran a PR of 20:09. Leena Bhandari-Cordoba and Hannah Petersen were first and second for Brookline, both coming in at 20:45. Despite the loss, Brookline’s entire top five all ran under 22 minutes.

Both teams will be in action at the BSC Champions the following weekend, where Newton North will look to avenge their loss to Needham.

#7 Girls Needham defeats #18 Wellesley, 24-32

Fresh off coming achingly close to a sub 17 performance, Needham’s Greta Hammer got the win in 19:01. Emma and Madeline Tuxbury of Wellesley went 2-3 in 19:11 and 19:54. All three will duke it out again at the BSC Championships.

Needham’s trio of Madison Roach, Claire Cianciolo, and Alessia Uyenoyama secured the win going 4-6. Uyenoyama ran a season’s best of 20:29.


#16 Boys Wellesley defeats Needham 15-44

Wellesley had an impressive showing yesterday, as they’re entire top five broke 17 minutes. Sami Juma took the win in 16:26. The rest of their top five ran between 16:36 and 16:59, to secure the top five positions and a score of 15. Austin Conti and Sam Gustat were first and second for Needham, running 17:13 and 17:22.

#12 Girls Weymouth tops Walpole, 25-31

Walpole’s Bridget Tierney got the win in 16:33 over the 2.57-mile course at Walpole High School. Coming off fast times this weekend at Twilight, Sonia Souto, who was runner up in the sophomore race, and Jessica Harding, went 2-3 for Weymouth in 16:47.

From there it was a back-and-forth affair as both teams traded positions. Walpole’s Lily McManus was fourth overall in 16:51, but was followed by two Weymouth runners, Natalie McInnis and Mia Manfredi. Walpole’s three and four runners, Jackie Anketell and Lila Zahurak, fought back to take the next two spots. In the end, Weymouth’s Sydney Phillips and Evelyn Hieshetter, secured the win, finishing in ninth and tenth.

#18 Boys Walpole tops Weymouth, 23-38

Top contender Luke Zahurak won a great battle over Weymouth’s Patrick Geagan, running a PR on his home course of 13:00, to Geagan’s 13:06. Weymouth’s Aidan McIntrye secured third place in 13:52. From there Walpole showed why they’re one of the top teams in the state, taking the next seven positions to secure the win. Keep an eye on Walpole, as they’ll be one to watch at States in a few weeks’ time.

#1 Girls Lexington tops #4 Winchester, 16-44

The #1 Lexington Girls had their biggest dual meet of the season yesterday and made it very clear who runs the Middlesex League. Led by Jane Conrad up front, the Minutewomen took the top four spots. Conrad led the way in a PR of 17:55 over the 5K course, followed by Callie Glenn in 18:28, Ella Tyson in 18:31, and Alycia Charest in 18:47. Emma Kosnik was sixth overall in 19:13. Conrad’s time currently ranks sixth in the state.

Winchester’s Caroline Lanz was able to break up the Lexington pack, running 19:01 for fifth place. It is worth noting that Winchester was without both Julia Ramsey and Riley Newman. Hopefully we’ll see them at the Middlesex League Championships on 10/27.

#2 Boys Lexington defeats Winchester, 20-43

Fresh of their dominant win at Wickham Park, the Lexington boys rolled with what could be dubbed their Varsity B team. While Winchester’s Noah Damaske got the win in a PR of 16:12. He had to fight to the line, as Lexington’s Eric House and Will Parker were right on his heels in 16:13 and 16:14. The Minutemen then took the next six spots to secure the win. In total, Lexington had nine runners break 17 minutes.

Lexington has the Catholic Memorial Invitational on Schedule this weekend. Between the Boys and Girls, it will be interesting to see who they run.

#7 Boys Reading tops Arlington, 23-32

The #7 ranked Reading team were tested by league rival Arlington yesterday at McClennen Park. Reading’s Tim Connolly got the win, topping Arlington’s Owen Merrill, 16:08 to 16:12. This continues to be a breakout season for Merrill, as he’s lowered his PR by 30 seconds.

Andrew Princic and Max King were third and fourth overall for Reading, helping to secure the win. Nico Peukert was second for Arlington and rounded out the top five finishers. Despite the loss, Arlington continues to show that they can compete with the best and are a team to watch out for in Division 1B. These two teams meet again at the Middlesex League Championships.

Wakefield Girls defeat Wilmington 18-41

Wakefield’s Quin Wilcox continues her torrid season, running a 5K PR of 18:51 to lead her team to victory. Teammate Liza Bangston was second overall in 20:38. Leading the way for Wilmington was Charlotte Kiley, running 21:14.

Wilcox was fresh off her third-place finish at Deven’s in 19:04. She’ll test herself against the league’s best in a couple weeks’ time at the League Championship.

Wakefield Boys edge out Wilmington, 27-30

Devin DeBerardinis got the win for Wakefield in a season record of 16:15. From there it was a battle between the Middlesex League rivals. Wilmington’s Gavin Dong and Cooper Hunt finished second and third running PRS of 16:38 and 16:46. Wakefield battled back with Alec Buonopane-Cohen and Max Viselli securing fourth and fifth position for the Warriors.

The script was flipped again when Wilmington grabbed the next two positions with David Dynan and Jake Cronin. Both teams were neck and neck, but Wakefield prevailed when they got their next four runners in, led by Sean Marra.

Belmont Boys defeat Woburn, 20-37

The Belmont boys team got an impressive win over Woburn yesterday. Woburn’s Dawit Kulubya got another league win, covering the 3-Mile course in 16:11. From there it was a sea of Belmont runners across the line as they took the next five positions. Sophomore William Olmstead led the way for Belmont, running 16:14. Teammate Ishaan Kanagaraj was third overall in 16:21.

Woburn’s Kulubya will have his sights set on the Middlesex League Championships in a couple weeks where he’ll battle for the individual crown
