Girls #6 Needham deafeats #5 Newton North
In a tri-meet with Framingham, the #6 Needham girls took on #5 Newton North for Bay State supremacy. The Rockets won the meet decisively led by a 1-2-3 finish by Greta Hammer, Madison Roach, and Eva Scharf. Hammer won the race in 19: 11, followed by Roach in 19:58, and Scharf in 20:25. Needham finished with a score of 25 to Newton North’s 32. Lily Grace was first for the Tigers in 20:47. Needham remains undefeated in league action and will take on Wellesley on 10/15 for another showdown. All Bay State Conference powers will then converge at Wrentham for one of the states most competitive league meets on 10/25.
Boys #4 Brookline defeats Weymouth 21-40
Brookline’s duo of Liam Hartman and Theodore Butty topped Weymouth’s top two, Patrick Geagan and Seamus Egan, to help the Warriors win. Hartman took the win over the 2.76 mile course in 15:21, followed by Butty in 15:28. Geagan finished on his heels in 15:31, with Egan coming in at 15:38.
Girls #13 Weymouth tops Brookline 20-39
Weymouth’s Sonia Souto got the win in 19:00 to help hold off a surging Brookline girls team. Brookline’s Hannah Petersen was second in 19:35 to help break up the Wildcats. Weymouth’s pack of Jessica Harding, Natalie McInnis, and Leah Glavin secured the win by finishing 3-4-5. Madelyn Carpenter was sixth overall for the Warriors in 20:37.
Weymouth takes on a strong Natick squad this week. Natick won the Varsity 1 race at Ocean State over the weekend.

Catholic Conference
Boys #12 Catholic Memorial falls to Xaverian, 25-31
Franklin Park was host to another Catholic Conference battle yesterday, as #14 Catholic Memorial faced Xaverian. The Hawks were able to get the upset, led by a surging Jack Weintraub, who got the win over Catholic Memorials Michael Upton, 17:10 to 17:15. In his first season on the trails for the Hawks, the 800m speedster is adapting well.
Upton was followed by teammate Gerard Stock in third. Xaverian’s Marco Petrino, Samuel Keith, and Desmond Sullivan, finished in order to help secure the win. Catholic Memorial will be in action this weekend at the Bay State Invitational at Wrentham, while Xaverian will head down to Rhode Island for the Ocean State Invitational.
#6 Saint John’s Prep defeats Malden Catholic, 19-44
After a strong showing at the Frank Kelly Invitational this past weekend, Saint John’s Prep traveled to Malden to face their conference rival. Junior Dimitri Profis of Saint John’s Prep got the win in 18:24, his first of the season. Malden Catholics Paul Harrington was second in 18:31, to lead his team and break up the Eagles.
Saint John’s Prep heads to Rhode Island for the Ocean State Invitational this weekend.
#5 Boston College High School tops Saint John’s Shrewsbury, 17-39
The Eagles were back in action at Franklin Park yesterday. Top Contender Greg McGrath took the win in 16:40 and was followed by three more eagles in the top four. Colin Kurtz, Theo Weiss, and Joseph Hayes ran between 17:07 and 17:36. Holden Halle and Conor Chabot of Saint John’s ran 17:52 and 18:03 to break up the Eagles.
Both teams head down to Rhode Island for the Ocean State Invitational, but it doesn’t appear that the Eagles are running their Varsity Team.
