While there was plenty of action in the Bay State this Saturday, the Amherst-Pelham Regional boys team went north to test themselves. The Southern Maine Classic played host to 35 teams in Gorham, ME. Most of the competition was from Maine, but it was one of our own that took the crown.
The Hurricanes won in an impressive score of 76, topping Freeport who was second with 157 points. Their top five all finished in the top 33, and top seven in the top 62, firmly establishing themselves as a contender in the Bay State.
Speaking of contenders, junior Calvin Miller was runner up in a PR of 15:55. Last season he was 16th in the Division 2B Race, in 16:57, his current best on the course at Fort Devens. This performance puts him in the conversation as one of the top runners to watch for the Division.
When November rolls around, he won’t be alone. Peter Nedeau and Nicolas Lisle were both top 15 in Southern Maine, running 16:36 and 16:48 respectively. Lisle was right on Miller’s heels last season at Divisionals, running 16:58 at Fort Devens. If the hurricanes can get all three of them sub 17 at Fort Devens, they’ll be tough to beat.
Rounding out the top five were freshmen Otis Fairey in 17:18 and Senior Sam Woodruff in 17:40. Fairey’s time currently sits as the third best for freshmen in the Bay State. Completing their top seven were Nicolas Workman and Calvin Cusick in 18:16 and 18:22.
Amherst-Pelham won’t have to travel far next week, as they play host at the Amherst Invitational on the Umass XC Course.
