It was yet another eventful season for our MA track & field athletes. Throughout the summer months, Bay State Running will feature some of our most memorable performances during the outdoor campaign. Here we feature Marblehead’s Nathaniel Assa.
While he demonstrated some talent his first two years as a high school distance runner, we’re sure Assa grabbed the attention of most of us this past winter with a breakout performance at the Meet of Champions (MOC), where he captured the two mile with a nearly 20-second best of 9:05.30. He followed that performance with a New England crown and PR of 9:04.60 and an All American sixth-place finish in the 5K at the New Balance Nationals in March.
The Magicians’ talented senior concluded his final season as a high-schooler in grand style. Two weeks after winning the deuce at the MOC, Assa clocked an all-time best of 14:25.19 for the 5,000m at the New Balance Nationals, an effort that earned him the silver medal and All-American status for the second time this year.
