It was yet another eventful season for our MA track & field athletes. Throughout the summer months, Bay State Running will feature some of our most memorable performances during the outdoor campaign. Here we feature Catholic Memorial’s Amar Skeete.
When it comes to the triple jump, there’s no doubt the future looks bright for Skeete. He opened his season with a personal best of 46 feet at a league meet on April 5, signaling early on that he was locked in. From there, the talented sophomore only got better. As the championship season began, Skeete elevated his performance with a string of victories at the Division 2 Championships (47-5.25), the Meet of Champions (48-5), and the New England Championships (48-2). Then, just five days after regionals, he delivered a career-defining performance at the New Balance Nationals. Competing at the University of Pennsylvania’s historic Franklin Field, Skeete soared to an eye-popping 50-5.25 — a three-foot PR, a new state record, and a leap that earned him All-American honors with a third-place finish. His jump broke the previous mark of 50-4, set by Ayer’s Neal Connor in 1981 — a record that had stood for more than four decades.
