It was yet another eventful season for our MA track & field athletes. Throughout the summer months, Bay State Running will feature some of our most memorable performances during the outdoor campaign. Here we feature Amherst-Pelham’s 4×400-meter relay.

The benchmark for a top girls’ 4x400m squad each year is to run a time under four minutes. In the history of the state, roughly 40 schools have been able to achieve that milestone. Among those talented quartets, just two have ever gone under 3 minutes, 50 seconds. Amherst Pelham was one of them. Just a week after winning the New England title, the Hurricanes earned All American status at the Nike Outdoor Nationals in Oregon by placing fourth overall with an outstanding time of 3:49.91. Comprising the foursome with their splits was Ololara Baptiste (55.31), Skylar Fox (58.77), Ruby Austin (59.0) and Moriah Luetjen (55.22). Their effort was less than two seconds from the current state record of 3:48.44, set in 2014 by Mansfield at the New Balance Nationals.
