North Andover is the site for the annual MSTCA Invicational and Pentathlon, to be held on Friday morning. The statewide competition will feature a full slate of events. The field events kick off the action at 9:30 a.m., with the shot, javelin, discus and pole vault taking place. The running starts at 10, beginning with the 400-meter hurdles.
The girls’ 400m hurdles features state and New England record-holder Giuliana Ligor of North Reading, who won the Meet of Champions last spring with a PR of 58.97 seconds. She’s the top seed by 10 seconds, so a solo effort is likely in her third time competing in this event this year. In a pair of league meets this season, Ligor has posted times of 1:03.64 and a season best of 1:03.44, a time that ranks her No. 41 in the country right now. A time under 1:01 will put her among the top 10 based on the recent national rankings. The North Reading star is also the top seed in the 100m hurdles with a best of 14.34.
The boys’ 2 Mile feature para-athlete Delmace Mayo, who will be just four days removed from competing his first Boston Marathon where he finished with a splendid time of 2:04.50.
