Div. 3 Titles Go To Milton Boys, Billerica Girls

A balanced team effort where it scored in 10 of 13 events spurred Milton High to the boys’ title at Friday’s MIAA Division 3 Championship with a 75-54 win over second-place Billerica. It was vice versa on the girls’ side as Billerica defeated the Wildcats, 75.5-45. The Indians scored two-thirds of their points on the track, highlighted by victories in 55-meter hurdles and 4x800m relay.

Zakari Perkins scored 20 points for Milton in its victory. Perkins’ points came from a pair of wins in the long jump (22 feet, 5.5 inches) and the 55m hurdles (7.40 seconds). The Wildcats’ Josh Toth also found the top of the podium by taking the mile with a time of 4:24.59. Milton also grabbed gold in the 4x400m with the quartet of Noah Tran, Luka Juric, Pablo Aldecoa and Miles Fergus combing for a time of 3:28.12, a mere .69 ahead of Masconomet Regional.

In the high jump, Melrose’s Sam Madden cleared a best of 6-7 to move to No. 5 in the state rankings.

Walpole’s Austin Feener took care of the sprints, blazing to a time of 6.52 in the 55m and 34.92 in the 300m.

Logan Alfandari of Amherst-Pelham captured the shot with a state No. 8 of 54-4.

Billerica was victorious in two events in the girls’ competition. The Indians’ Nyrah Joseph broke the tape in the 55m hurdles with a state No. 3 of 8.30. The foursome of Nartie Siegal, Caitlyn Donahue, Kylie Donahue and Gianna McGowan took the 4x800m in 10:03.55.

Westfield’s Megan Moran swept the distance events, racing to times of 5:04.45 in the mile and 11:27.28 in the two mile. Billerica’s Donahue was second in the mile (5:04.77), while teammate Gianna McGovern was the runner-up in the deuce (11:27.52).

Oliver Ames’ Lavendar Kozaka was a gold medalist in the 55m (7.23) and the long jump (18-3.5).

In one of the more exciting races of the day,. Amherst-Pelham held off Duxbury in the 4x200m. The Hurricanes were timed in 1:45.68 to their rivals’ 1:45.68 effort. Amherst-Pelham was also first in the 4x400m with a time of 4:05.34.

West Springfield’s Nahla Williams became the state’s second shot-putter over 40 feet, taking her specialty with a best of 40-2.
