Division 1 State Relays: St. John’s Prep, Newton North Bring It Home

Depth prevailed for St. John’s Prep and Newton North at Friday night’s Division I State Relays at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Scoring in seven of the 10 events, St. John’s Prep captured the boys’ team title by scoring 51 points. Newton North was second with 39 points. On the girls’ side, Newton North were scorers in all but one event. The Tigers racked up 64 points, nearly 20 more than runner-up Lexington.

St. John’s Prep accumulated 13 points in the 4×50-meter relay, taking gold with its ‘A’ squad (21.08 seconds) and placing sixth with its ‘B’ team (22.12). The Eagles also had two of its quartets score in the shuttle hurdle, placing third and seventh, respectively. St. John’s Prep won the high jump relay.

For the girls, Newton North with triumphant in the SMR (4:10.58). DMR (12:20.13) and the long jump (15.14 meters).

State leaders were established for boys by Lowell in the 4x800m (8:02.62), Newton North in the 4x200m (1:29.87), and BC High in the DMR (110:24.13). Lexington raced to a new No. 1 for girls’ in the 4x800m (9:27.33).
