We looked at past performances this season. We put our trust in you, the coaches, in the times you submitted for a few of your entries. We looked at the numbers…and then we added it all up.
From that, here’s our most educated guess on what will happen at the Division 5 State Relays at Reggie Lewis on Sunday. As we know, and as we often say, anything can happen when our track & field athletes take on their rivals in a championship meet. But if you’re a stat person which, admit it, most of us are, here are the top squads for this weekend’s competition from the numbers that have been given to us.

By the looks of it, the girls’ meet should come down to North Reading and Lunenburg., both who are capable of scoring about 45 points based on the seeds. North Reading is ranked No. 1 in four events – the shuttle hurdle, sprint medley, long jump and high jump relays. Lunenburg has the top seed in the 4x400m and is No. 2 in the high jump and SMR. The Blue Knights could score in at least seven events, while the Hornets are ranked among the top eight in five. Norwell, Ipswich, and Weston are among teams in the mid 25-point range and could be fighting for those other spots.
Could we have a sweep by North Reading? It could happen. Based on the seeds, the Hornets are the top squad in the boys’ meet with the capability to score more than 50 points. North Reading is ranked No. 1 in the long jump, shuttle hurdle, 4x50m and 4x200m relays and ranked third in the SMR and shot. Norwell looks like a solid No. 2 in this meet with a legit chance to beat the Hornets. The Clippers have the top foursome in the 4x800m and rank second in the long jump and SMR and third in the 4x400m.
