
The first two days of the MSTCA Northeast Invitational lived up to the hype. After Friday night’s and Saturday’s action, nine new state-leaders were produced, seven coming from the girls’ events. Mixed in with that were 10 meet records!
Here’s a recap…
FRIDAY
Peabody’s Evan Bedard and O’Bryant’s Lendz Desamours both broke the MR in the triple jump with Bedard capturing the title with a distance of 45 feet, 8.5 inches. Desamours leaped 44-10.5 for second.
Peabody also had a record-setting performance from Alex Jackson in the weight throw with his heave of 69-5.
Para-athlete Delmace Joseph Mayo raced to a huge PR in the mile with a nation No. 4 of 4:14.05.
MacKenzie Cook of Oyster River (NH) and Plymouth South’s Macey Shriner both went under MR and five minutes for mile with times of 4:56.86 and 4:58.17, respectively.
The boys’ Sprint Medley Relay saw four teams make the standard for the New Balance Nationals with Weston and Milton both erasing the meet record. Weston’s quartet of Noah Lago, Amil Poyau, Nicolas Barbieri, Ben Tavares combined for a winning time of 3:33.13. Milton was timed in 3:34.17 for the silver.

SATURDAY
State-leader Madeline Goncalves of Haverhill was just a few inches from her best to win the shot with a record 42-8.5.
The top three in the boys’ high jump matched the MR of 6-4 with Melrose’s Samuel Madden winning the title on fewer misses. Securing second and third were Brockton teammates Lucas Andrade and Jaden Lopes Ribeiro.
Pre-race favorite Sasha Lamakina of Framingham held off Oyster Rivers’ Haley Kavanagh to win the 1,000m. Lamakina improved on her state No. 1 with a MR of 2:55.37. Kavanagh also broke the record with a runner-up time of 2:56.06.
There were a pair of record-setters in the 600m, too. For the girls, Weymouth’s Isabella Galusha etched her name in the books by breaking the tape in 1:37.40. Westwood’s Tea Pagnotti was also under the old mark, taking second in 1:39.26. Bishop Stang’s MIchael Veegh led three under 1:24 with his season best of 1:23.32.

Dennis Yarmouth’s Breanna Braham (39.51) and Snowden International’s Rick Barros (34.97) added to the onslaught of meet records with their respective wins in the girls’ and boys’ 300m.
Methuen’s foursome of Isabella Fiore, Alysha Santana Sosa, Kiera Fitzpatrick and Lauren Quarm combined for a MR in the 4x200m with a state-leading and school record of 1:46.78.
