Lucas Andrade didn’t have much time for a breather at Sunday’s Winter Festival Large School meet.
But as usual, his busy day proved to be a successful one.
Brockton’s multi-talented senior earned three victories inside the Reggie Lewis Center, claiming individual triumphs in the 55-meter dash and high jump and anchoring the Warriors to a first-place finish in the 4x200m relay. Andrade clocked a state-leading 6.52 seconds for the 55m, a race where .13 separated the top four. The Brockton standout leaped 6 feet, 4 inches in the high jump and, along with teammates Ricardo PIerre, Jovanni Voicimus and Jaden Lopes Ribeiro, ran a leg on the 4x200m squad that posted a state No. 1 of 1:33.39. Andrade currently sits atop the rankings in the 55m hurdles, an event he won at last year’s Meet of Champions.
Brockton’s Jarred Mighty, a victor in the 400m hurdles at last spring’s Meet of Champions, showcased his speed without hurdles by winning the 300m. The gifted junior powered his way to a state No. 3 of 36.31.
On the girls’ side, North Andover teammates Nicole Kroon and Luna Prochazhova went 1-2. Kroon was timed in 12:15.85, while Prochazhova was right behind in 12:16.18.
In one of the closest race of the afternoon, Sinead Butler captured the 1,000m with a time of 3:14.89. Less than a second separated the next three finishers with Lowell’s Ella Machado (second, 3:15.95), Newton North’s Adella Dupere (third, 3:16.55) and LOwell’s Sabrina Cady (fourth, 3:16.92) occupying those spots.
