HOKA Athletes Of The Week: Whitinsville’s Emily Flagg & Newburyport’s Michael Mohoric

Following the trend of perfect weather this month, sunny skies greeted the 1,000-plus participants at Franklin Park this past weekend for the 63rd annual Catholic Memorial Invitational. From Saturday’s meet, which attracted some top runners from New Hampshire and Rhode island, were our latest HOKA Athletes of the Week.

Congratulation to our two local victors from the CMI, Whitinsville Christian’s Emily Flagg and Newburyport’s Michael Mohoric, our female and male recipients of this week’s honor.

There was no touching Flagg at this weekend’s meet. The Crusader sophomore kept her undefeated streak intact this season with a dominating victory. Flagg clocked her third sub-18 minute race of the season by winning the girls’ race by more than a minute with a meet record of 17:48.4.

In the boys’ Silver Race, Mohoric produced the Bay State’s other winner. The Clipper junior held back patiently until there was a mile remaining in his race. It’s there that he took over the pace-setting duties and went on to secure the triumph with a time of 16:23.9, five seconds ahead of his closest rival.
