Bay State Running was at Franklin Park on Saturday for the 63rd annual Catholic Memorial, which was sponsored by Marathon Sports and HOKA.
What a day it was for the 52 schools and 1,150 runners that competed in the biggest meet in the last 40 years, held under ideal conditions.
Continuing to make a case for herself, that she just might be the runner to beat in the Division 2 ranks, Whitinsville Christian’s Emily Flagg ran away with the girls’ title. She did it in record fashion, too. The gifted sophomore won by more than a minute with a new meet mark of 17 minutes, 48.4 seconds for the challenging 5K.Teammate Emma Wierenga made it a 1-2 finish by the Crusaders by securing the runner-up spot in 18:61.2.
New Hampshire’s Sullivan Sturtz turned in the fastest time of the day to win the boys’ Red race. The Keene junior crossed the line in 15:50.3 with Marshfield’s Graham Heinrich taking second in 16:09.2
Newburyport’s Michael Mohoric was the victor in the Silver race. The Clipper junior was timed in 16:23.0.
