A bulk of the athletes and teams in Massachusetts will be at two locales this weekend. While we have a few schools making this way to Manchester, CT for the annual Wickham Park Invitational, most squads will be either in-state at the Bay State Invitational in Wrentham or in Rhode Island for the 17th annual Ocean State Invitational at Goddard State Park in Warwick.

Nearly 1,200 runners are signed up for the Bay State Invite. Saturday’s meet will feature three Varsity races (A, B & C), a co-ed JV race and a pair of Middle School races to conclude the meet. Greater Lowell Tech’s Devin Moreau posted the fastest time of the day among boys at last year’s meet. The recent grad averaged five-minute pace with a winning time of 15 minutes, 32.7 seconds in the ‘A’ race. On the girls’ side, Barnstable’s Ava Bullock was the quickest, taking the ‘B’ race in 19:22.1.

Close to 60 teams are scheduled to participate at Ocean State, a two-day meet that includes six middle-school races on Friday and 14 high-school races (Varsity, JV, Freshmen & Championship) on Saturday.
In the featured Championship races, Billerica, Cambridge Rindge & Latin, Lexington, Marblehead, Nashoba Regional, North Andover, Oliver Ames, Plymouth North and Westford Academy will have representation on the starting line. Boston College High, Cambridge Rindge & Latin, Groton Dunstable, Lexington, Lincoln Sudbury, Ludlow, Marblehead, Melrose, Natick, Newton South, Oliver Ames, Parker Charter, Pentucket, Plymouth South, St. John’s Prep and Westford Academy are among the entries in the girls race.

At the site of this year’s New England Championships, a couple of our schools will be making their way to for the Wickham Park Invite. The meet features 12 races with Varsity (Large, Medium & Small Schools), Junior Varsity, Freshmen and Middle School events. More than 100 teams are entered for Saturday’s meet, including Mohawk Trail and Pope Francis from the Bay State.
