It was yet another eventful season for our MA track & field athletes. Throughout the summer months, Bay State Running will feature some of our most memorable performances during the outdoor campaign. Here we feature an incredible distance medley relay at the New Balance Nationals that featured some top performances by a few of our MA squads.
In most years, a time in the low 10-minute range would win the DMR at a national-caliber meet like the New Balance Nationals. Not this past year. It wasn’t even close. The DMR at last month’s race had seven (yes, seven!) teams break 10 minutes, including our own Westford Academy. The Ghosts’ quartet of Jack Graffeo, Ryan Kyle, Adam Wedlake and Paul Bergeron demolished the previous state record by finishing fifth overall with a combined time of 9 minutes, 57.63 seconds. The race saw the Oregon Distance Project (9:43.30) and CT’s Ridgefield (9:44.44), the indoor titlist, both break the national record. It also saw a few more of our MA squads produce impressive races inside Franklin Field, including Boston Latin (19th, 10:10.87), Winchester (21st, 10:15.44), and Brookline (22nd, 10:15.56).
