You’d be hot-pressed to find a more successful week that this past one for our MA track & field athletes. At the three national championships that took place – the New Balance Nationals, adidas Track Nationals and Nike Outdoor Nationals – PRs, school records, and All-Americans came in bunches. For this week’s HOKA Athletes of the Week, it came down to our two national champions. Congratulations to Lincoln-Sudbury triple-jumper Gabrielle Pierre and Boston College High’s 4xMile Relay
Throughout the season, Pierre was our state’s best when it came to the long and triple jumps, earning individual titles in both events at the Division I Championships and the Meet of Champions. The Lincoln-Sudbury junior’s specialty proved to be the triple jump where she established a new state and New England record as well as a near Olympic Trials qualifier of 43-feet even at the divisionals. Pierre capped off her special season in the best way possible by capturing individual gold at the New Balance Nationals where she leaped a winning distance of 42-2.25. She was also tenth in the long jump with a PR of 19-6.25.
On the opening day of New Balance, the Eagles’ quartet of Shamus Larnard, John Wilson, Greg McGarth and Chris Larnard earned a spot at the top of the podium by winning the 4xMile with a state record of 17 minutes, 15.79 seconds. That time smashed the 10-year-old mark of 17:34.34, set by Medfield at the MSTCA Division 1 Relays in 2014.
