The Littleton boys and the North Reading girls emerged victorious at Wednesday’s MIAA Division 5 State Championships, the first of five championship meets that will be held at the Reggie Lewis Center this week.
In the boys’ meet, the Tigers defeated runner-up Ayer Shirley, 56-46. Weston was third with 35 points.
Littleton was spurred by senior Bona Bradshaw, who scored 26 points for the night. Bradshaw won the mile (4 minutes, 32.15 seconds) and the 1,000-meter run (2:34.33). He was also third in the two mile (9:56.35), an event won by Parker Charter’s Henry Jacobsen in 9:41.57.
Carver’s Camren Allain took sole ownership of the No. 1 spot in the rankings for the high jump by clearing a PR of 6 feet, 8 inches.
Amesbury’s’ Aiden Donovan, ranked No. 2 in the state in the shot, copped his speciality with a distance of 50-9.5.
Bromfield’s Jack Stahl finished a hundredth of a second from his previous PR to claim the 600m title in 1:23.86.
North Reading, which claimed team honors at the State Relays last month, scored 47.5 points to earn their latest triumph in the girls’ meet. Lunenburg was second with 40 points. Weston took the bronze with 36 points.
The Hornets were highlighted by a multiple-winning night from Giuliana Ligor. The gifted junior captured the 600m in a state-leading 1:35.41. Ligor also took the long jump (17-4.25) and was second in the 300m (SB, 40.11).
In the 300m, Dennis Yarmouth’s Breanna Braham was a mere stride from becoming the first runner to break 40 seconds this season. She was timed in state No. 2 of 40.08.
