A few teams were finishing up their league seasons last week and, for some teams, their league championship meets began over the weekend. From those competitions, we got out latest HOKA Athletes of the Week. Congratulations to Plymouth North’s Macey Shriner and Peabody’s Alex Jackson for this week’s honor.
With the Patriots League Championships on the docket this Saturday, Shriner proved she’s in peak form by clocking a state-leading time of 1 minute, 36.85 seconds for the 600-meter run at the league’s finale last Thursday. Her effort was a best by two seconds and puts her just five hundredths of a second ahead of previous leader, Kayla Brohlin of Wellesley. For Jackson, he improved his state-leader in the shot by three inches and moved closer to the 60-foot mark. In his league final before Saturday’s NEC Championships, Jackson captured his specialty with a heave of 58 feet, 3.5 inches. Jackson is currently more than four feet ahead of his closest rival in the state rankings.
