While there’s potential for more in the next few days. the Newton South girls was the first of or MA teams and individuals to strike it rich at the one of three national championship meets taking place this weekend.
The Lions captured the Sprint Medley Relay during Day 2 of the Nike Outdoor Nationals on Friday. The quartet of Ellie Jolly, Catherine Zong, Emily Frawley and Amelia Everett won by eight seconds with a time of 4:02.29, the second fastest in Newton South’s rich history. Everett ancored the squad with a 2:08.6 for his 800m leg. The trio of Jolly (200m), Zong (200m) and Frawley (400m) combined for a time of 1:53.6 for their legs.
In the boys’ SMR, the Bay State had three of its teams making the podium at the Nike meet, held at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. Revere led the way by taking runner-up honors with a time of 3:37.13. Newton South placed fourth overall in 3:39.54, while Dover Sherborn took sixth at 3:40.76.
