Day 1 of the MIAA Division 6 Championships were held on Thursday night at Westfield State University.
Among some of the highlights…
Uxbridge’s Aidan Ross was a convincing winner in the two-mile run. The Wake Forest -bound senior moved up to No. 8 in the state rankings with a time of 9 minutes, 13.73 seconds. Littleton’s Timothy Ranks was second at 9:26.41.
Whitinsvillle Christian’s Avery Glidden, who ranks No. 6 in the girls’ 400-meter hurdles, continued her consistently with a triumphant 1:04.33. That time was just under her previous best of 1:04.44 from her win at the Dual Valley Conference Championships in mid May.
Mohawk Trail’s Emmett Johnson won a close race in the boys’ 800m where he broke the tape in 1:56.0. Just over a half second separated the next three finishers with Bromfield’s Jack Stahl (second, 1:57.26), Mount Greylock’s Quinn McDermott (third, 1:57.74) and Bromfield’s Sam Decor (fourth, 1:57.81) taking the next three spots.
Parker Charter’s Theo Puterbaugh leaped to No. 3 in the rankings for the discus with a heave of 162-6.
Springfield International Charter’s Winston Lewis (see photo above) blazed to a fast 22.06 to capture the 200m.
