The State Relays occupied this past weekend and, in typical fashion, we had a number of fine performances turned in by our MA track & field athletes. That, of course, bodes well for the championship season, but also makes for a difficult decision when choosing this week’s HOKA Male Athlete(s) Of The Week.
After much thought, we’d like to congratulate the Oliver Ames’ 4×1,600-meter squad for this week’s honor. The quartet of Brendan Thomas, Aiden Dupill, Alex Pierce, and Ryan Sarney combined for a school and meet record of 18 minutes, 0.43 seconds to win the Division 3 title this past Sunday. On a wet and cool day on their home track, Pierce split low 4:40 at leadoff. Dupill and Thomas both had sub 4:25 legs and Sarney anchored with a 4:15 . Oliver Ames, which won the relay by nearly a minute over second-place Melrose, qualified for the Nike Outdoor Nationals in Oregon with its effort.
