HOKA Male Athlete Of The Week: Jacob Cookinham, Bishop Stang

Throughout the year, BayState Running will recognize our top boys’ and girls’ athletes each and every week. Without further adieu, we’d like to congratulate Bishop Stang’s Jacob Cookinham, who we nominate as the HOKA Male Athlete of the Week.

The ultimate goal for Cookinham is a victory at this weekend’s New Balance Nationals where he’ll match up against three of the top five shot-putters in the country. Holding the No. 1 spot since Day 1 this season, the Kansas-bound senior has proven throughout the winter campaign that’s a reality. In his final tune-up before making his mark at NBN, Cookinham was at his best at the New England Championships. In all six of his attempts, the Spartan standout unleashed the metal ball a distance of 61 feet, 8.5 inches or further. His top throw of the day, a near best and triumphant 67-3.
