Throughout the year, Bay State Running will recognize our top boys’ and girls’ athletes each and every week. Without further adieu, we’d like to congratulate Concord-Carlisle’s Obi Akubude, who we nominate as the HOKA Female Athlete of the Week.
As is the case with any meet of this magnitude, there were a plethora of great performances at Saturday’s Meet of Champions. But only one athlete was able to twice earn a spot at the top of the podium. Akubude earned gold in both the 55-meter hurdles and the 300m dash insde the Reggie Lewis Center. In the hurdles, the Patriots senior clocked a near best of 8.31 seconds. She came back later and beat a talented field in the 300m where she dipped under 40 seconds for the fourth straight meet with a winning time of 39.65.
